Chances With Wolves is the nom de guerre of DJs Justin Cox, aka Kray, and Kenan Juska. Every Monday night, these two can be found in the storefront studios of East Village Radio jamming out some of the funkiest, freakiest soul and R&B music you’ve never heard of. Which is precisely the point. The guys almost never repeat a song, and yet their ability to unearth the most obscure gems from the proverbial vaults is never in question.
In their sit-down with The Avant/Garde Diaries, they explain what makes for a show-stopping tune, how they got hooked on old cuts in the first place, and why they’ve got no plans to stop digging.
Cox and Juska’s good friend, Scott Campbell, is the proprietor of Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn. But he’s also an established fine artist known for works on paper, laser cut “currency” artworks, and intricate designs on ostrich shells. Much of this is in evidence in his first monograph, If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long, published in collaboration with Rizzoli and OHWOW Gallery.
